Pass Guides & Information
🏔️
Teton Pass: Wyoming Most Critical Mountain Road
Teton Pass (WY-22, 8,428 ft) is the chokepoint for Jackson Hole access — the only paved highway connecting Idaho State Line to the Jackson Hole valley. During peak ski season (December–March), even minor closures cause cascading traffic delays across a 45-mile stretch. WYDOT operates cameras and variable speed limits on WY-22 between Idaho and the Teton Village turnoff. Check current status before any early-morning or evening drive — weather can close the pass with less than 30 minutes notice.

Togwotee Pass: Grand Teton South Access
Togwotee Pass (US-26/287, 9,654 ft) is Wyoming highest maintained highway pass and the southern access route into Grand Teton National Park from Dubois and the Wind River Valley. The road grades are steep, and above 9,000 ft, weather changes fast — afternoon thunderstorms are common in summer, and early-season snow can close Togwotee as late as early June. Snow removal crews typically begin work in April, but full clearance depends on snowpack.
🌲
Bighorn Mountains Passes: Remote Wilderness Access
The Bighorn Mountains hold six of Wyoming key passes: Chief Joseph Scenic Highway (WY-14A, 8,180 ft), Powder River Pass (US-16, 9,678 ft), Granite Pass (US-14A, 7,500 ft), and Burgess Junction (US-14, 9,100 ft), plus Red Grade Road (WY-72) and the Beartooth Pass approach. These passes serve the Bighorn National Forest, Cloud Peak Wilderness, and Ten Sleep Canyon recreation areas. All are seasonal and remote — no cell service in many sections. Carry fuel, water, and emergency supplies.
