Colorado's campground network spans alpine basins at 10,000 feet to high-desert mesas below 5,000 feet — and everything in between. Whether you're looking for a front-country car campsite with hot showers and a reservation at RMNP, or a dispersed BLM site 30 miles from the nearest paved road, PeakScout tracks availability and fire restriction status across them all. Fire restrictions change rapidly here: a Stage 1 can become Stage 2 within 48 hours during dry windy periods. We track the current tier for every campground and alert you when restrictions change on sites you've bookmarked.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions
Which Colorado campgrounds require reservations?
Rocky Mountain NP requires vehicle reservations May–October ($30/vehicle + booking fee). CPW state parks (Chatfield, Cherry Creek, etc.) accept reservations at ReserveAmerica.com. USFS campgrounds are typically first-come, first-served.
What are dispersed camping rules in Colorado?
Dispersed camping on USFS and BLM land is generally allowed outside of designated campgrounds. No services, no fees, no reservations. Typically limited to 14 days in a 30-day period. Leave no trace — pack out everything.
What is the current fire restriction tier in Colorado?
Fire restrictions change by forest. Check the banner above the campground list — we track the current restriction tier for each forest. Stage 1 prohibits campfires but allows propane stoves. Stage 2 prohibits all open flame.
When do Colorado campgrounds open and close?
Most high-elevation campgrounds (9,000+ ft) open late May through mid-June and close by mid-September. Lower elevation sites (below 8,000 ft) often stay open through October. Check the specific campground for current status.
