Washington's campground network spans from the glacially-carved campgrounds of Mount Rainier to the old-growth rainforests of the Olympic Peninsula. PeakScout tracks conditions across the state's developed USFS, NPS, and state park campgrounds. Summer wildfire smoke can affect air quality significantly — our AQI layer shows which campgrounds are currently clear.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need reservations for Mount Rainier campgrounds?
Cougar Rock and Ohanapecosh campgrounds require reservations May–September via recreation.gov ($22/night). Paradise and Sunrise campgrounds have limited sites. Book 2–3 months ahead for July–August.
What makes Washington camping unique?
Old-growth rainforests (Hoh, Quinault, Sol Duc) with 150+ inches of annual rainfall, volcanic alpine zones with glaciers, and the marine climate of the coast create a different experience from the rest of the Mountain West. Pack for rain any time of year.
