Wyoming's campground network spans from the polished granite corridors of Grand Teton National Park to the vast, empty basins of the Bighorn Mountains. PeakScout tracks conditions and availability across developed campgrounds and dispersed sites. Summer wildfire smoke from surrounding states can affect air quality at campgrounds — our AQI forecast layer shows you which sites are currently clear.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need reservations for Grand Teton campgrounds?
Yes — Colter Bay, Gros Ventre, and Lizard Creek campgrounds require reservations May–September via recreation.gov. Jenny Lake campground is first-come, first-served. Book as early as January for July–August. Vehicle entry fee: $35/7 days.
Can I dispersed camp in Grand Teton or Yellowstone?
No — both parks prohibit dispersed camping. Dispersed camping is available on surrounding USFS and BLM land outside park boundaries. The surrounding Bridger-Teton National Forest and BLM lands have extensive dispersed options.
What is the best time to camp in Wyoming?
July through mid-September for most locations. August brings wildfire smoke risk. July offers wildflowers and generally stable weather. September offers aspens and fewer crowds but cooler nights. Snow can fall at high elevations any time of year.
