Year-round staple. Most reliable winter and early spring hatch. Look for clusters of tiny midges on slack water. Green River A-section midge season is legendary Nov–Mar.

Dense hatches on Frying Pan, South Platte, Madison. Morning into early afternoon. Provo River PMD June–July.

Pattern: Chernobyl Ant, Circus Peanut, Pat's Rubber Legs #4-6

The Big Event. CO: Arkansas May, Roaring Fork late May. MT: Gallatin/Blackfoot June. UT: Green River June — the A-section salmonfly is one of the best hatches in the West.

Pattern: Yellow Stimulator #8-12, Copper John, Rogue Foam Stone

Follows salmonfly up the river. Provo River and Logan River June golden stone hatches are strong.

Pattern: Elk Hair Caddis #14-18, X-Caddis, Parachute Caddis

Evening hatches throughout summer. One of the most important hatches on CO/MT/UT rivers. Logan Canyon caddis May–June is exceptional.

Major mayfly hatch across the intermountain West. Green River June, Provo River May–June, Logan River June. Dense emergences on calm water.
